Somerville has eleven public grade schools, one on the Massachusetts charter school program, five private Catholic parochial schools, and one large public high school, Somerville High. Education quality is often considered to be slightly below average for the state. Somerville has no college or graduate schools of its own, but does share part of the Tufts university campus with Medford. Neighboring Boston and Cambridge have many universities, including Harvard and MIT, considered among the best in the world, and Somerville houses many of their students who cannot afford those cities' higher rents.
