Coos County is in the northernmost part of the state. The county commissioner's office is located in West Stewartstown.
The population in 2000 was 32,936. The largest towns are Berlin, Lancaster, and Gorham.
Coos is bordered by Canada to the north, the State of Maine to the east, Grafton and Carroll Counties to the south, and the State of Vermont to the west.
