Asheville is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, in Buncombe County. There are over 100 peaks over 5,000 feet above sea level in the nearby areas, including Mt. Mitchell, which is the highest mountain east of the Mississippi River. It has a population of over 69,000 and a land area of 90.509 sq. kilometers.
