Joanna is a community of approximately 1,800 residents located five miles southeast of the City of Clinton. The post office name was changed from Goldville to Joanna on August 1, 1948. The name was derived from the wife of the owner of Joanna Manufacturing Company.

Norbord, one of Laurens County's most important manufacturers, is locating in the Joanna community. The initial investment was 115 million dollars.
