Enumclaw is located in south King County approximately 45 miles southeast of Seattle, and situated at the base of the foothills near Mount Rainier. With a current population of approximately 10,800, Enumclaw has retained its small town character while benefiting from the growth of the surrounding region. Early settlers called this area "Stevensonville," but the name later changed to Enumclaw. Enumclaw comes from Native American tongue which means "loud rattling noise" or "thundering mountain" which is what the Indians used to call what is now Mount Rainier.
