Mother Shipton was born in 1488 in a riverside cave at Knaresborough, England. She is said to have predicted important historical events many years ahead of their time - the Great Fire of London in 1666, the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, and the advent of modern technology - but it is generally accepted now that most of her prophecies were composed by others after the events they predicted.
