John Roscelin (Roscelin of Compiègne, Johannes Roscellinus, Jean Roscelin), c. 1045 - c. 1120. Medieval philosopher and theologian, who dealt with the problem of universals through radical nominalism. He was a teacher of Abelard, who drew heavily on Roscelin's teachings although he also attacked them.
