Monica Seles was born in Yugoslavia on 2nd December 1973. She became a United States citizen on 16th March 1994.
Monica's greatest achievement was her comeback after being stabbed in the back by a Steffi Graf fan, at a changeover in Hamburg on Friday 30th April 1993. Monica did not play tennis again until Saturday 29th July 1995 defeating Martina Navrátilová 6-3 6-2 in an exhibition match in Atlantic City.
As she returned to the WTA Tour after that she won her first tournament, the 1995 Canadian Open, for the loss of just fourteen games.
