USS Montana (BB-51) was never completed because of the Washington Treaty for the Limitations of Naval Armaments. The hull was sold for scrap 25 Oct 1923. Montana was assigned to (BB-67) on 28 December 1940; but construction of the Montana class battleship by Philadelphia Navy Yard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was canceled 21 July 1943, before her keel was laid.
USS South Dakota (BB-49) was never commissioned because of the Washington Treaty for the Limitations of Naval Armaments. The unfinished hull was sold for scrap 25 Oct 1923. USS South Dakota (BB-57) was commissioned in 1942.
