Cerne Abbas is a village and civil parish on the River Cerne, which emerges from chalk hill springs to the north
around the smaller village of Minterne Magna { south of Middlemarsh and Blackmore Vale },
and flows south to its confluence with the River Frome at  Charminster.
Cerne Abbas is served by the A352 road, from  Dorchester south of Charminster,
northwards through  Longburton to  Sherborne.

Geoarchaeologists report their believe that the naked figure sculpted into a chalk hillside was created during the late Saxon period. Soil samples' age analysed over 12 months, suggested that the giant was forgotten after first sculpted and rediscovered later. (May 12, 2021)
