for sites featuring photographers (amateurs, semi-professionals, and professionals) or photography studios and their work, abilities, and artistic skills.
for sites providing information about photographic equipment, techniques, and services.

Arts/Photography is NOT:

for sites selling equipment, products, or prints online.
for sites where professional and commercial photographers offer their photographic services for hire to clients.
for sites featuring photographic services which are available online (retouching, image manipulation, scanning, photofinishing, photo labs etc.)

Please find the single most appropriate category for your site, following the instructions given below.

The primary focus of your site has to be on Photography. It should be evident that you consider yourself to be a photographer. Collections of snapshots, or sites featuring images of poor technical quality will NOT be listed anywhere in Arts/Photography.

If the identity of the photographer or studio is secondary or of no importance, and the intent of your site is simply to show pictures of a particular topic, please submit your site to that topic''s category, and NOT to Arts/Photography.For example, if you have a site with lots of photographs of cars and the identity of the photographer(s) is unknown or of no importance, then please submit your site to a suitable category in Recreation/Autos.

Please submit sites showing photographic work which is not for sale online to an appropriate subcategory of Arts/Photography/Photographers or Arts/Photography/Techniques_and_Styles.

Please submit all for-hire services such as i.e. wedding, portrait, commercial-advertising, aerial, architectural or fashion photography sites to the proper subcategory of Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Photographers.

If you are selling photographic equipment or products, please submit your site to Shopping/Photography.

If your primary focus is on selling prints online, please submit your site to Shopping/Visual_Arts/Photography.

If the primary focus of your site is selling licensed or royalty free photographs from your archives, please submit to Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Stock.

All sites featuring photographic services which are available online such as retouching, image manipulation, restoration, custom printing, scanning, and photofinishing are listed in Shopping/Photography/Services.

If the text on your site is not in English, please submit your link to the photography category in the proper language in World. For example, Spanish language sites should be submitted to World/Español/Artes/Fotografía.

Some photography sites may qualify for a second listing in the Regional branch of Curlie.

Art Galleries

This category is for sites featuring primarily photography exhibits run for photographers, not by them. Such exhibits are typically organized by art galleries around the world which work with several artists.

The top level of the 'Art Galleries' category is for physical, real-world art galleries. For organizational reasons other real-world art exhibition spaces dedicated to photography (i.e. run by independent artists, cities etc.), with the exception of museums, can also be listed here.

In order to be listed in this category you should

exhibit original works made by more than one artist.
include information on your website on where your gallery or art space is located (i.e. your address).
NOT sell photographs online.

The 'Virtual' subcategory of art galleries is for art galleries which focus on photography, and which only exist online as a "Virtual Gallery", not being associated with a physical location.

This is NOT a category for single artist sites... even if you call it a gallery.

THIS CATEGORY IS NOT FOR SINGLE ARTIST SITES, EVEN IF YOU CALL IT A GALLERY.

When submitting your site, please title it with the actual title of your site, or with the name of your gallery.

Professional photographers, available to work for hire to create images for a client, should submit to an appropriate subcategory of Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Photographers.

Events

Major photography events around the world.

This category is for sites about non-professional photography organizations, other than online clubs, which are listed in Arts/Photography/Photographers/Communities. The category concentrates on sites offering resources for hobby clubs, or links to them. A small number of local club sites of exceptional interest may also be found here, and in regions where there are few English-language club sites, all may be listed.

This category is mainly for organizations supporting local clubs open to all photographers.

Photographers

This category is for sites where amateur or professional photographers showcase their works, or for sites about photographers (online exhibitions).

The 'Fine Art' categories are for sites showing primarily photographic work that attempts to go beyond a literal presentation of the subject matter.

The 'Black and White' categories are for exhibits consisting primarily of black and white photographs. A few color images may be included if they are the extreme minority.

This category is home to sites that offer broad coverage of photography, or cover several different photography topics. More specific reference sites that cover more narrow photography topics can be found in the categories they refer to. For example, camera reviews and technical information can be found in Arts/Photography/Equipment_and_Services/Cameras/. Darkroom equipment reviews and tutorials can be found in Arts/Photography/Techniques_and_Styles/Darkroom/. Digital resources are found under Arts/Photography/Techniques_and_Styles/Digital/.

Techniques and Styles

General photography techniques. Sites in this category should provide tips and techniques or include photographs with an explanation of how the photograph was taken. This may include use of the equipment, composing the photograph, visualizing the shot, interacting with subjects, or interacting with clients. This does not include pictures of models or subjects without explanation or commercial sites which do not include a tutorial section.

Photographers showing work created by alternative techniques or processes should submit their sites to the Photographers subcategory under the appropriate method.

Sites selling products online should be submitted to Shopping: Photography. They will NOT be listed anywhere in Arts: Photography.

Only sites with the majority of their content being about alternative photography will be listed here. Do not submit sites where the alternative photography content is of minor importance.
