National League System:
In order to be eligible for consideration for membership of The Football Conference Limited, Conference North and Conference South competitions, a club must be a member of the Premier Division of the Isthmian Football League Limited, Northern Premier League Limited, or Southern Football League Limited. Applicant clubs must also confirm their agreement to meet in full the Criteria of Membership for the Conference North and Conference South competitions.

This category deals with amateur football leagues, clubs, and teams, affiliated to the Amateur Football Alliance (AFA).
The following competitions are sanctioned by the AFA.

The senior section of the league has three divisions, known as Premier, Senior A and Senior B. All three divisions are county wide.
The lower divisions are regionalised, and number 1 to 5. At these levels 1A and 1B are equal, and both promote to Senior B.
The Premier Division is part of the National League System (Step 7).
