- Falmouth, population about 22,000, is a port town and parish, south of Truro, Cornwall, with which it shares the Parliamentary continuency.
- The River Fal enters a larger estuary, north of the port, Carrick Roads, which forms the deepest natural harbour in Western Europe (third deepest in the world).
- Falmouth is on the west bank, with the harbour protected from the English Channel by Pendennis Point, where Henry VIII constructed the headland fortification Pendennis Castle.
- This was the penultimate fortification for Charles I's Royalists to hold out against the Parliamentarian Roundheads at the end of the English Civil War (1642–1651).
- Across the mouth of Carrick Roads, are Carricknath Point with Zone Point furthest south at St Anthony in Roseland Peninsula.
- Maenporth is at the southern tip of Falmouth parish, before Mawnan to the south west.
- Inland the largest settlement in Budock parish is Budock Water, for which websites are listed here.
- Falmouth is served by both rail and the A39 road from the north west, via Penryn.
- Across the mouth of Penryn River to the north is Flushing at the southern edge of Mylor parish, where websites are included with Penryn.
- In summer, ferries connect Falmouth with Flushing, St Mawes and Truro.
