Stratton is a linear settlement along the north bank of the River Frome, now bypassed by the A37 road from  Charminster.
The railway line from  Dorchester separates the village from the majority of Stratton parish, between Charminster in the Cerne Valley to the east.
The northern parish buundary is with Godmanstone, where websites are listed with  Cerne Abbas further north.
Sydling Water forms the western boundary, and flows from  Sydling St Nicholas further north.
Grimstone is a hamlet along the A37, before the next parish to the west,  Frampton.
Muckleford is a hamlet south of a bridge over the Frome, in the parish of  Bradford Peverell.
