The ceremonial county of Wiltshire consists of two unitary authority areas, governed by Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council.
Wiltshire is the most eastern county of the  South West Region of England,
with  Gloucestershire to the north west,  Somerset to the west and  Dorset to the south west.
In the  South East Region of England, Hampshire is to the south and east,
West Berkshire is to the north of this on the eastern boundary
and on the east boundary of Swindon is Oxfordshire.
